Travel to: Oliver, B.C.

Welcome To My Blog!

To kick off this  blog, I thought I would start off by telling you all a little about me, and what the reason behind my blog is.

My name is Chelsi Ziccardo, and I am a graphic designer and illustrator based out of Calgary, AB, Canada. I’ve lived all over Alberta, but I was born in Vancouver. Having finished college in Lethbridge last May, I came back to Calgary to pursue a career in graphic design. It’s been going okay. Just okay. Work has been slow and I’ve been trying my best to pick up clients via Kijiji.

During the day I am a Receptionist. This job has given me a lot of extra time to develop ideas for my freelance graphic design business, Ziccardo Designs. It also gives me a lot of time to practice my illustrations. What was nice about that, was that it re-sparked my love for character design and there have been so many paths I’ve wanted to take since then. I started another website where I can share my illustrations and web comic series, Paolo’s Vault.

There is a lot about me that is more than just cartoons and paint. I find cooking to be exciting and I love trying new food. We live in an apartment in the West End of downtown and there are always new restaurants opening up around us. Here, I would love to share those experiences and some of my favourite recipes.

I also enjoy travelling. But my version of travel is a lot different then what you’d expect. I guess I should rephrase. I enjoy vacationing. For worldly travelling you might enjoy my friend Brooklyn’s blog, . Being from Vancouver, I spend a lot of time going back there, whether it’s to the big City, or visiting my sister in the Okanagan.

Her and her husband recently purchased a house in Oliver, and that’s where we spent our Labour Day weekend. The drive from Calgary is about 8 1/2 hours, but the scenery is beautiful. We hit a few spots where the smoke from the wildfires was pretty bad, but once we got to the Okanagan, it cleared up.

The weather during the summer is always hot and there is so much to do outdoors. We went to Moon Cursor winery for a short tasting. I highly recommend the Dead of Night wine, if you like reds. My sisters house is about 10 minutes outside of Oliver, with a breathtaking view of the rolling hills and a very comfortable hammock, of which I spent most of the weekend in. We also stopped by the Noteworthy Gin Distillery and picked up a bottle of their gin. Basically all we did on this vacation is drink, but if you’re vacationing in wine country, When In Rome.

I think my favourite city in the Okanagan has to be Penticton. It’s not too big, not too small and everything is pretty much walking distance. We went to the fair ground by the beach, and did some go kart racing and bumper boats. Bumper boats was definitely a good idea considering everyday was plus 35. I wish we could have stayed longer, but we have a few trips coming up this year to look forward to.

Being so busy with work and starting my own business makes me very grateful for moments like these, where you can escape for a weekend and tune out all of the day-to-day buzzing.

Here are a few snapshots of our weekend in Oliver.
